Reese’s Seasonal Shapes: Better than the Original

reese's seasonal shapes

When it comes to chocolate and peanut butter candy, nobody beats a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Well that is, except for one of the seasonal Reese’s shapes. That’s right, friends, we’re saying it — the main seasonal shapes that Reese’s releases around four major holidays are better than the original peanut butter cup. Why are they better? One simple reason, really: more peanut butter. Reese’s peanut butter has a very distinct taste and texture, and if you’re a fan, then what you’re really looking for with a Reese’s is that special peanut butter. Because milk chocolate? Let’s be honest, you can get that almost anywhere.

The original Reese’s peanut butter cup has been around since 1928, but what about these delightful shapes? Most of them made their debut in one of the best decades, the ‘90s, while another goes a bit farther back. Do you know which one? Read on to find out.

Eggs

Reeses Egg

The OG seasonal Reese’s shape is the egg, which has been around since way back in 1966. Shaped like a, you guessed it, egg, these come out around Easter each year and come in both the 1.2 oz original size and a .6 oz mini size, often sold in a multi-pack bag, which are great for hiding in a desk drawer for a quick candy snack.

Pumpkins

Reeses Pumpkin

Next up is the pumpkin shape, which came out in 1993 to celebrate Halloween, the biggest candy holiday there is, though these do not have jack o’ lantern faces carved into them like the above packaging would make you believe. Many times, it’s hard to make out the pumpkin shape when you open up one of these packages, but does anyone really care? No, they’re there for the peanut butter and chocolate action.

Trees

Reeses ChristmasTree

Another seasonal favorite came out in 1993, and that’s the Reese’s tree, which is really a Christmas tree, but I suppose they’re trying to be non-denominational with the more generically named “tree.” Now, these aren’t quite as good, because there is actually some more chocolate to contend with thanks to the little nooks created by the tree shape. Still, we’ll never say no to one (or two) of these stuffed in a stocking at the holidays.

Hearts

Reeses Heart

Probably the second biggest candy holiday got their own special seasonal Reese’s in 1997 with the introduction of the heart to celebrate Valentine’s Day. And if you have a Reese’s lover in your life, you best be getting them some of these special treats around V day, you know what I’m sayin’? We also have to give it up to Reese’s for their cute packaging here, which has a little arrow going through the heart to be all Cupid-like. How sweet.

Though there are other seasonal shapes that Reese’s has come out with over the years, the four above are the true classics and feature the best peanut butter to chocolate ratio, at least in our opinion. But what about your opinion? Do you agree with us, or are you way more into the original peanut butter cup? Let us know in the comments!

FiveFastFacts Tall
  1. HB Reese is the creator of Reese’s. He actually used to work at a Hershey’s dairy farm, and used Hershey’s chocolate when he created Reese’s.
  2. Though Reese created Reese’s separately from Hershey, after his death, his sons merged the company with Hershey in 1963. Today, the company is considered a subsidiary of the main Hershey’s corporation.
  3. As of 2020, Reese’s products made up 47% of all seasonal candy sales in the United States. The next top-selling brand only accounted for 10% of these sales!
  4. Reese’s is also the second-highest selling candy brand in the United States. The brand that’s beating it? M&M’s. I mean, I won’t say no to a peanut butter M&M either, just saying.
  5. Reese’s are way more popular in the United States than internationally, though. As of 2012, international sales only accounted for 2.8% of overall sales!

  1. AHHHH, It’s July and I am out of Pumkins. I never found any trees this year and now it is July and I have to wait until September for the Holloween candy to be out on the shelves again. How will I survive?
