- Boglins were first introduced by Mattel in 1987, and were created by Tim Clarke, Maureen Trotto, and Larry Mass, alumni of the Jim Henson Company.
- The original three Boglins were named Dwork, Vlobb, and Drool, though Vlobb and Drool were called Plunk and Flurp in the UK.
- The initial models featured glow in the dark eyes that could be moved using a lever inside the puppets. They could also wink/blink via a small plastic tab above each eye.
- Several series of Boglins were released until 1994, and they were rejuvenated in 2000, again in 2017, and once more in 2020 thanks to a Kickstarter campaign.
- Mini Boglins were released in 1991 and were made of solid plastic with no movable parts.
